Hi, my two sail panels need to be replaced as they are in the throes of terminal rot. If you've done this job, I have questions:

From what I see, the panels look like they are just set in place in the trim, screwed to the door jamb and caulked. Am I missing anything?

I know that some have gone back with star board (?) I was thinking marine grade plywood. What thickness are people using?

About the star board, I was told not to do it as it expands and shrinks with heat. I would assume then that those who have used it added extra trim and then let it float in place-which brings me to my final question (for now) is this panel in any way a support for the flybridge aft deck? Someone at the boatyard thought it was. I don't, but it never hurts to check!

Thanks for your thoughts and answers-I want to get this done and the boat splashed!

It is not a support piece. I think Pascal made those out of Coosa board, which would work great. About 9 years ago I dug out all the rot in mine and put in hardwood pieces that I faired in and repainted the entire thing. So far 9 years later and all is well.

i replaced both of mine over the years, 1 inch foam board glassed on all sides, faired and painted. lots of work but they will never rot again. they are screwed in through the lip on the edge of the top and up through the rail and several screws into the door frame.

I spoke with a local company that carries the Coosa board. 1/2" 4X8 sheets run $220. ea. This may be the way to go.

And thanks for all the feedback!
