  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Hey all, been a month since able to get on the "Sandbar" here. Just wanted to pass along that my wife & I rode out the hurricane on board M/V No Regrets & as true to her name no regrets as to staying on board. Although Matthew dropped to a cat 1 and west wall came directly over us in Charleston, we were fortunate in our slip location as some houses broke front side winds. Back side winds gusted to 63 mph. Most importantly was that the "Admiral" was a trooper (a few cocktails but absolutely no 'Long Island iceT's' were partaken earlier in afternoon prior to Matthew coming) and never showed stress during the event. Another great thing that occurred, we never lost power! We indeed were spared in a sense that although this was no Hugo, a many folks elsewhere did not fair so well. Hope everyone on here fared well.

Very lucky. Someone was watching over you two. Great news.

My boat rode out Matthew at tolers cove and no damage. Where was your boat? Heard St. John's and patriots point had some issues.

Glad you made it ok!

Every storm is different not just pure peak winds but also how big the wind field. Matthew was a midget :) ok sorry... I should say Matthew was a small person !

Even in the Exumas where the center passed within 30/40 nm the damage was limited

With a fairly protected location, most boats should survive winds upnto 100kts. The key is not get a long fetch and resulting waves. Back in 05 we got hit by Katrina and Wilma and my marina in Miami got 90kts. No damage. Two rough rides but nothing significant

Earlier this year, we got hit by a derecho while anchored off Staniel cay in the Bahamas and winds were clocked up to 70kts sustained for three hours. Even on the hook like we were most boats made it just fine.

Were at Wild Dunes Yacht harbor on B dock. Also heard St. Johns lost 20 or slips as well as Bohickett. Glad you guys did well over at Tolers! Keep in touch and hope to meet up sometime!

Seven & Pascal, thanks for your replies. Pascal, just reassures me why I chose a Classic Hatteras (more like she chose me!) not only for her strength but her classic beautiful profile! These vessels can withstand what most others cannot during these storms!

Had to look up "derecho". I'm always learning things here!

I had never heard the word until after the thing hit the Exumas.... Some people describe it as a straight line hurricane. It affected an area almost 100nm wide, from Gtwown to highborne, with some local stations recording 90 kts sustained. Problem is that they can be forecasted, all we expected was 30kt squall line listing 30'...

Oen affected th Chesapeake about 10 or 15 years ago I think. Pretty rare.

There was a large hatt MY up anchorage from us which lost its anchor and spent two hours trying to hold position...
