Robertson AP300DL Fluxgate

My autopilot has stopped working in Auto and Nav mode with the display staying at 38 degrees. I've toned out the cable back to the junction box successfully. When I pass a large screwdriver near and around the compass the display does not change.

It's the compass. Right?

Doesn't that fluxgate need power also? I would look at the manual and see what the fg needs and test that out also. Robertson/Simrad has a great customer service line 800.426.5565 . They are real good at helping you troubleshoot their A/P units.

Thanks for the input. Forgot to mention when fg cable is disconnected head unit whines about the compass off-line so power there. Called Simrad - as everybody here has stated, great tech support. They also think it's the compass. While they do not repair the RFC300 they have a current replacement which is an RFC35N and it's on the way after talking with a local distributor.
