  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
We finally got on our way home Sat. We were late heading out so we over stopped @ Block Island over nite, We stayed @ Paynes . We left out under a small craft advisory, the wind & seas we pure hell for 15 miles. I had the time of my life & Mrs. G. got very green. I knew I had a good boat, But now I know I have a great sea worthy vessel. (5-7') seas . It was the most awesome ride I ever had. I absoultly loved it...Mrs. G is on the totally other side of those kind of seas. We were in the kind of water Hatteras's were built for. The boat handled very well, she felt like she was in her glory. The bow was in all the way to the rail and she just cut her way right on thru. The DD's just sat there & did what I pay them to do.....purrrrrr.

I have only a rough outline on this trip, We start with a plan A & plan B or C . then one will fit wherever we wind up/ My plan is no plan. Just to enjoy this adventure.
We spent Sun. nite @ Clinton Ct. today we wil try to get to Stamford for a stop over & slide thru Ny Tues. My biggest plan is to get out of this COLD weather... hoping to be south of Atlantic City by wed.
Didn't need a captain for this kind of trip ,Would have been nice , but I have the knowledge, & time. I am not a big fan of Garmin either. It's ok as a plotter , but It will screw you if you had to count on it. Glad I learned the charts & books. Garmin screwed me last nite , glad I knew to have Charts The Famous magenta line AIN'T so accurate...Go figure....

Will check back in in a few ....oh yeah by the way , the refrigerator emptied it self in the 5-7's haha what an adventure.........

Yes, if you're going to boat in weather like that, you might as well put everything on the floor. It ends up there anyway.

If you are coming down through the Chesapeake, let me know if you can; stop in Annapolis and I'll take you both to dinner. I'll PM you a telephone number to reach me. Now that the boat shows are over, dockage in Annapolis ought not to be difficult to find.

Have an enjoyable and safe trip and keep us all posted.

Running west in BIS yesterday afternoon was pretty snotty. At least you had the wind and the tide both going in the same direction. If it was an incoming tide, you would have bruised your kidneys and lost some teeth.

I was fishing the Larchmont wreck 3 miles south of Watch Hill from 11 til 2 drifting and snap rolling. (We refer to the wet bar in the salon as the "launch pad").

Here's a couple tips from an offshore masochist:

Put a latch on the fridge.

Tie a cooler down up on the bridge so you don't have to climb down under way for lunch or drink.

Put everything on the deck in the first place - it will wind up there anyway. And for God's sake don't put anything on the launch pad.

Finally, buy the admiral a plane ticket, take 2 or 3 buddies on the trip, and bar hop your way down the coast.

Have a great and safe trip!

What Bob said many times over. Too much of that "fun" for you and Mrs. G will want to sell it before you get to Jim's!!!!!

And all the other stuff too.

Please do keep us posted especially the items that relate directly to the 43:cool:

The only issue I have developed is the age old problem of a leak in the aft cabin starboard side , I thought it was coming in from the bathroom port, but it shows up in the center of the bottom compartment. It may be from a screw I lost on the rub rail front , I not sure if it was put all the way thru the side of the hull . I'm going to fill the hole with 5200 & see if that gets it.

other than that it has ran well . The port engine has a very tiny drip of oil from the impeller shaft . ran all day & I get a 4" circle on an oil catch pad . It has been said if a DD isn't leaking oil it aint running right.....I may become a believer in that statement....

put a wet beach towel under the ice chest and it will help with the sliding

Left out one tip. Under certain conditions, say running in from 90 miles offshore after being surprised by a back door cold front and 30kt NE winds, it is perfectly acceptable to pee off the flying bridge into the cockpit (hence the derivation of the term). Note - just be sure the rest of the crew is in the salon surfing the sofas or prone on the sole.

Thanks for that info, I'm going to take that under advisement. By the way Mrs. G gave me a new title : " Captain Dick " , Not in the way I would like it to mean either.......She will really like me after I piss off the bridge & promptly blame it on you guys......hahaha.

thanks Paul Gwiz
