  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I need to replace our Galley Maid windlass on our 1972 58 Yacht Fish. Does any one know the best most cost effective brand and way to do it?

I do not have a windlass, so this is hearsay. Both Maxwell and Ideal have their fans. A search here will at least give you the ones to avoid. Given that wqindlasses tend to lead a hard life in an exposed position on the boat, service parts and rebuilding capability would be high on my list of desirable features. Also made in USA.

Why don’t you have Galley Maid rebuild and rechrome the one you have now? It has to come out anyway and it might be cheaper to go back with what your have as opposed to changing to a different brand.

Ditto on Michael's response. They're not many moving parts on the Galley Maid and other than having to rewind the motor and replating the exposed surfaces, it can be done in a day (or so).

Since you didn't say why you felt the need for a replacement, it's hard to give you any more specific suggestions.

Don’t forget to budget for core repairs. More likely than not there was water intrusion at some point.
