  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' LRC (1976 - 1981)
The flybridge pedestal chairs on our 48 LRC are open to the weather at all times and after 40 years have surrendered to mother nature. They have fiberglass exteriors with a plywood coring in the back and seat. Looking around the internet a Pompanette T3372 chair is a drop in replacement for the pedestals I have.

My problem is finding a good source for these seats and some details on what is included with the seat and what is optional. Pompanette does not appear to have much of a dealer network, if any. Your recommendations on a good source would be appreciated.

Pete

Pompanette is pretty expensive. Based on my now-50 year old models the internal parts are cheap plywood, not even marine quality. This delaminates. Of course I have had mine recovered several times. I now have two fishing chairs and the lower helm seat by them.

About 10 years ago I was at the Ft Lauderdale and looked at a Stidd pedestal replacement for my fly bridge chair. They gave me a discount on the demo display model if I would pick it up after the show. I have been very pleased with it over the years. Far more comfortable than the original Pompanette. Since we run almost entirely from the bridge we spend a lot of time in it--it is the best seat in the house! Plus it has a foldable footrest that The Admiral enjoys.

I would suggest these unless you are dedicated to maintaining originality on board.

I was successful in having custom Pompanette helmseats built to replace the originals on my 1966 41 TC. It was like pulling teeth to get this done until I happened across a guy at Pompanette in California. His name is Scott Sneathen phone 949-650-0310. Trying to talk to the rep at the Pompanette location in Fort Lauderdale was a colassal waste of time.

Pete,

I have a bridge with 3 helm seats. I replaced the middle one with Lebroc and am contemplating changing the other 2 so they will match. They are in an enclosed helm and are in nice shape. If you are in the fort Myers area and I change them you could have the seats but not the pedestals. I don't think I have pictures but they are not like sea Eric's.

Thanks for the offer. Just to be clear I do need chairs that have removable seat and back cushions, as the base chair remains open to the elements at all times.

Is that the type of chair you may be replacing? BTW, I am in New Bern, NC.

Pete

I bought a similar Pompanette helm chair to Eric's. Quality is nice. Getting anyone on the phone is impossible unless you talk to Scott, as Eric wrote. Everyone else in the company appears to be brain dead or don't answer the phone.
