I am removing some old hypalon number plates with imbedded numbers on our Avon dink (also hypalon). The dink has a new registration number. I have the old plates off but now am trying to remove the adhesive residue so I can stencil/paint new numbers directly on the dink. I tried acetone and lacquer thinner which are the strongest solvents I normally use. Is there anything that will remove the old Hypalon glue from the dink?

MEK but it might melt the tube.

wouldn't it be easier to put a new Hypalon plate over where the old one was?
$44.99 and a little 4200....and no elbow grease.

3m general purpose adhesive cleaner, and it won't hurt the tubes.

Thanks. I'll give the 3m a try.

If the glue remover doesn't work, try a 50/50 mix of MEK and toluene. It will not harm hypalon, but might dissolve glue in joints on the tubes so use carefully.

Like said, toulene. Toulene is what "activates" the real hypalon glue and also removes it.

Again like said, don't get it on any existing joints.

Heat gun may also help remove it with no solvents or weaker solvents. Toulene is nasty stuff by the way.
