I'm starting to pull everything out of a 52c for a complete update of electronics.

I won't be commenting on the previous people's work.

Since it snowed here last night I am envious of the weather you have to work in.

The PO on my boat left all those wires there too, just in case I needed to use them again.

Most were hooked up when I got started. The autopilot has about 1,000 cables.

I don't get that mentality. My boat was the same way. If they ran a new wire, they left the old. There were wires everywhere that went nowhere (when I was lucky, some were hot).

Same here. I think I could have paid a years worth of insurance if I’d scrapped all the copper I removed from our boat.

Careful removal and unwiring will take 6 or more man days. That's a lot of work and explains why so many people don't do it.

I've seen so many bad installations over the years. Even worse when a "knowledgeable owner" comes up with a bunch of shitcuts that make me cry.

I filled a 55 gallon garbage can. After that, finding where a wire went wasn't that hard anymore.:)

Mine's pretty tidy..... although I will get to pull 500 miles of coax.

My pile of "from nowhere, to nowhere" wiring weighed hundreds of pounds.
