  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
Dear colleagues:

I am looking at Hatt MY on the Gulf Coast.
The plan is to mover her to New England.
Does anyone have thoughts / recommendations on a source for an exterior paint job / topsides and superstructure. Emphasis is on good quality high value add.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

I got a quote from Baja Naval in Ensenada Mexico to paint my 63' Hatt from top to bottom for $55,000. I'm sure state side prices may be more.

What size boat are you looking to have painted ?

The boat is 70 feet

I'm having my 48 Series 1 MY Awlgripped at Composite Marine in Trappe, MD. I've looked at their work and I liked it very much. Their rates are reasonable (especially compared to So Fla or NJ). I'm not sure if their lift can handle a 70' Hatteras and also they have a waiting list of about 6 months.Another thought would be Atlantic Yacht Basin next to the Great Bridge Lock just South of Norfolk,VA.Actually there lots of yards that can do the job for you up and down the coast. You can start the trip North and leave it with one of the yards for a few months. Lots of forum members have had their boats redone, some (most) happy others not so much. Good luck.

You may stop or call the mariner where i am in NC. It is small only 4 guys work there but they are painting a 53 MY now will finish in about 2 months. If you have interest for more info call me (919 255 0882. You can see my 52 c that was painted there.

do you want to have it painted on the gulf coast or after you get to the east coast? which 70 are you looking at?

Dear Colleagues

Thank you very much for your input.

I have seen some work from Owl Creek Boatworks in the Fort Myers area and it was very good.

Broadus Rose with Lookout window frames has a paint crew and yard in Beaufort, NC. His crew is really good and his rates are quite reasonable. Right now he's finishing up 60+ Viking. Give him a call 252 723 2222.

I don't think Composite Yachts can do anything that big, but it is worth calling them; they do excellent work.

AYB is also very good but their prices are high. I would look at the NC guys mentioned.

As long as "Dale" (don't recall his last name) is still employed at Yacht Maintenance in Cambridge, Md., I would talk to him. Excellent Awlgrip painter and very conscientious. I can't comment on price because it has been ten years since he sprayed our 53' and I did the prep work. I have also had good work performed by Anchor Bay in Dundalk, Md. But not sure if they could handle your size. Yacht Maintanence can for sure. Feel free to contact me if you want more info. I am not a big poster on here.
