  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
I recently removed the Sherwood raw water pumps that feed my 454 crusaders. I was going to install new bearings, cams, seals, and impellers. One problem, I can't remove the hub from the shaft (the part that the pulley is connected to). I don't see any set screws or pins or keys to remove. Unless I get that off the shaft I won't be able to get to the other end of the shaft. I removed the end plate ,impeller and cam from the other end. Anybody know how to do this. help.

You need to press the hub off.

Thanks captddis, I'm surprised there is no key or set screws to prevent it from turning. I'm sure I'll be able to get it off using the screws that hold the pulley on. I'll have to go to a machine shop to press it back on. I have no press. Okay, back to work.

I may be misunderstanding the objective, but is it a split pulley designed for a jam fit to the shaft? If so, you may have to use several jack screws to separate the halves. Look for threaded screw holes on the outer half and run in some screws if this is your setup.

Bobk, no that's not my system.

Bill, I have all the prints and directions. They say support the hub and push out the shaft. Sounds easy doesn't it?

Thanks for the replys.

Save yourself a lot of time and trouble and just buy new water pumps. You can rebuild one of the old ones for a back up.

If you're not familiar with pump repair send it to someone like Depco and let them do it, by the time you buy all the parts, and mess around with it the cost difference is not that great.

Yes DEPCO rebulit mine last year, good service and fast shipping
