Ran out of Fuel (Diesel)

If you run out of fuel, do you need to bleed the air from the filters? or just fill it up...Diesel,,,871n

Put fuel in the tank and fill up all of the filters. If you have priming pumps, use those. If not, it may take several fills of the filters before all of the air is out.

I had this happen and my mechanic told me to spray WD 40 in the air filter while someone hit the starter. It started right up.

I suspect someone will now post a reply that explains why this is not the best idea ever but it will work.

same as when you change filters... connect a priming pump (even a hand brass transfer pump will work) either at the primary inlet or outlet, and reprime the system.

without a pump, even if you refill the filter, you're going to have to crank and crank and crank...
