Racor Question

I know I've come to the well a bunch, BUT... 1987, 63MY, with 12v71 ti's. It has the oem original t-handle racors, two side by side for each engine..... Any help on the filter elements they use?? Thanks

Those are probably the Racor 1000's. Some like to use the 30 micron filters. I prefer to use the 2 micron which is part number 2020.

"Some" includes Detroit Diesel, with a 10 Micron on the engine.

The 30's are 2020PM, the 2's are 2020SM and the 10's are 2020TM.

Dotties husband: talk to the folks at designated Engineer about getting vacuum gauges for those filters. Very handy to let you know when it is time to change.

Vac gauges are a must if you plan to use the 2 micron. And before we start the filtration debate, you might want to search some old threads. This has been debated many times before.

I have the dual ones and i run a 10 mircon off the front filter and a 30 micron in the second filter.

that way if and when the 10 micron filter cloggs I switch to the 30 micron until i can clear and change the front filter. I have two more sets of filters on the engines, the spin on kind.

I was using the 2 mircon ones in the first of the dual racors but they needed to be changed more often than the 10s.

I am told that the spin on filters on the engines will catch the smaller particles and that the racor with 10s or 30's will separate the water and the bigger particles.

This way all the filters are woring together instead of just the first filter at 2mircons doing all the work.
