My 671 TI alternator is acting up! The voltage creeps up to 18 volts as I rev up the engine to 1000 rpm and higher. I checked at the battery with my VOM and at the main panel 12v/100v panel and the voltage is right at about 18 v. I assume the regulator is bad; I believe it is built into the alternator. Anyone have comments on the Reliabuilt vs local rebuilder let me know. I am on Eastern Long Island.

Thanks!

I would always go local if possible. I like to be able to put my hands around their neck if they screw it up. There should be a good shop somewhere around there. My 8v53's probably take the same one and I paid about $60/each with cores.

I thought about it and will stay away from the dealer. I am going to use the local shop as you suggest. I was referred to one not far from me.

The toughest part now is crawling to the outboard, port side (partially under the galley cabinets) to get it out! This will be one of those "Need the Aleve" tasks.

Thanks!
