I keep getting the "bearing pulse error" on my radar. I also noticed the fuse I think is associated with the open array is blown. Replaced the fuse and get the same error....as well as another blown fuse. Should I assume the motor in the open array has issues or is there something else to look for?

Any help would be appreciated. I know I need to update the radar but can't swing it at the moment.....New house last year, just got married in Jan and now a baby due in August (reason I can't make the chesepeake meeting).....also the reason I can't buy any new toys at the moment!

I have the R20 and the manual states that that may be a motor error. I don't have the manual with me and due to the flooding at the marina may not be able to get you more info until next week. If you need more then I will get you the info from the manual.

Bearing Pulse Error is generated when the array fails to rotate rapidly enough. I used get it once in awhile. I had a bad alternator that was not putting out enough juice and the voltage would slowing drop, when I was running at hull speed. When it got near 12v (under 12.5v), I would get the error. Also, I needed a shot of grease to the Zerk at the base and that seemed to help, since that lube increased the spin rate.

Ensure the voltage to the array is satisfactory- at least the 12.5v. Otherwise, the fuse blowing could be due to overload from a bad motor (was that an obvisous safe remark?).

I had the same error on my 21xx just a few weeks ago. Turns out the fuse was blown and then I blew the second fuse as well. If you have the unit on and then hook up the cable that goes to the antenna, if will pop the fuse immediately. Make sure you do not turn the unit on until you have the antenna cable attached. I got lucky and figured it out after just two tries..

All of the other previous suggestions also apply as well. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my 21xx about a year ago. Someone on this forum graciously referred me to Mike Deluca at Raymarine. He answers his own phone, and has been with Raymarine since it was Raytheon. He walked me through the diagnostic problem with mine and resolved my problem without charging me a cent. His number is (603) 881-5200. Good luck

Low voltage will cause the current to rise, blowing the fuse. Check voltage, starting with the batteries, all the way up to the unit. You could have a corroded connection somewhere that is causing the drop in voltage.

OUTSTANDING...someone decent at Raytheon/Marine, whatever...u r da man!!!

Thanks for the pointers! I will be at the boat all next weekend and I'l let you know what I find out. I know it worked one trip last year and then a few weeks later it didn't want to do anything but give me an error message. I'll start by opening up the array and looking for loose or corroded connections and while I'm there lube the lube point. I'm sure my batteries are fine (2-1yr old 8D's...and besides the cummins probably wouldn't fire up so well if there was issue with the batteries...Hopefully its not a bad motor.
