Yes you can get a queen berth in the forward cabin on a 53 MY. The key to it is you have to convert the head door to a sliding door. Just finished ours, new cabinets to port. John

Looks great! Did you consider changing the head door from a left out swing to a right?
 
Made the head door into a rolling door, like a pocket door and it works great, I think if it was to swing the other way it would block the door going aft out of the forward cabin some. John

What is the beaded material covering the inside of the hull?

Can you show the door mechanism?
 
We insulated the hull, glassed on small 1” x 1” firing strips to the hull then attached vinyl bead board which is toung and grove in 8” wide panels by 8 feet long from Home Depot or Lowe’s. The door I built a top and bottom track and bought some small fixed casters that were just the width of the door and they roll in the track. Actually works great, surprised me how well it worked. John
