I have DD 671TIs and would like to install pyrometers. I am looking for recommmendations on brands/model, temp. ranges and installation procedure.
Thank you

Ain't nothing to 'em. There should be a port for them right behind the turbo - look for a pipe plug in the exhaust collector. Screw in and enjoy.

Do not cut the wire that comes with them.

ETNA ENGINEERING makes some good ones the same company that makes the digital tachs. The thermo couples can be ordered in just about any pipe thread you want. They must be located before the turbo in other words in between the manifold and turbo. Most engines have a spot already threaded for this purpose in not you will have to find a spot and drill and tap. You can use special wire to connect the thermo couple leads to the guage I have done it with the special wire and just plain old 16AWG and saw no differance in performance.

I bought Isspros for my new engines. They sell a huge variety of these, with different dials, probes, leads, etc. They are very helpful. If you have turbo engines they also have something called a "Turbocator" which combines boost and EGT in one unit, all self-powered, takes up less space on the dashboard.

Why did you have to buy new one's you had a pair on the Cat's?? They should still work???

I didn't have them on the CATs. I did have a tuneup done a while back on the CATs where the tech hooked up manometers, but nothing installed permanently. That's why I got these. I'm interested to see what they show, plus cummins has to have all these readings to put the warranty in force.

I'm Installing LIVORSI # GMPYK1D PYROS which are known to be pretty high end and accurate the range is 600 to 1500

I'm not positive, and I usually don't post unless I am positive, but I THINK typical turbo temps are in the 800 degree range at cruising RPM...so the post of 600 to 1500 degrees range seems ok....

If anyone knows what the minimum recommended cruising temp is, that could easily change my mind....for example if it's 550 degrees, then I'd like a gauge that reads from about 400 or 450 to at least 1200 degrees. But thats because I'm nosey about what goes on down there!!!! :D

600-1500 is fine, my 6BTA's run around 900 and if you see 1500, stuff's melting!
