  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
I do not know if I posted this FACT or not, but my work has taken me out of the country. I am now living in Saudi Arabia. Initially my assignment was for six months, but looks like it is going to get extended for at least two, possible up to 4 years. I was asked this week to move to Qatar at the end of the year to take on a new 3 year project. (Ms. Kim, may have something to say about the next move, but if the money is good, I am there.)

When I left in December, 2013, I had my 1972 - 36C hauled, winterwized and set up for long term storage, thinking that I may be in Saudi for as much as a year. The boat was completely emptied of contents, instruments removed, drained of fuel, canvas removed, shrink wrapped and set up with moistrue control.

With the news that I received this week, I am wondering if it would be best to sell the boat and buy another when I return. I hate to see a boat set for multiple years. All the upgrades over the last six years, I do not want them to go to waste. The marina says boat will be fine. But I do not know.

I am writing this post to see if there may be any interest in the Hatteras community. With the new interior, floors and windows, engine cooling system replacemenets and new $8,000 bottom last summer, I have about $80k tied up into the boat. I know, it is more than the boat will likely sell for.

Anyway, I have not yet decied if I am going to sell or not. I have had great fun with the boat and it ran great when I put it away. The size is perfect for where I live and boat and the boat is almost in the condition that i am satisified with.

There are elements that were scheudled for upgrades this comming summer; new thermostats in the engines, possible replacement of trim tab pump, and a new windless. Every time I work on the boat, I replace old electrical wiring. Sometimes I do it, sometimes I ahve the yard make the replacements. I have pulled out miles of wire, a lot more than I have replaced. I also have a paint job on the list. Mechanically, the boat is in good shape. I have been lucky and had access to a good mechanic who cares. (That does not mean cheap!)

NOT TOO BAD FOR 42 YEARS OLD!

If anyone has any interest, let me know. IMG_0067 - Copy.webp
