Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
Installing my new Vesper AIS and Morad antenna turned into also replacing my vhf antenna turned into replacing all coax and connectors at the helm turned into refreshing both antenna masts, which were showing a little fuzz. Two coats of West Systems epoxy, an hour of sanding, two coats of Axalta “new” Imron, Hatteras white. Another hour of sanding and some rubbing compound, and I think they’ll look great...not Clarkson great, but great enough for antenna masts. I have some chips and small repair areas to touch up on the boat, so this was good practice, and a chance to be absolutely sure of the color match.

The masts cost less than the imron. But you don't get to breath all the fumes with new antennas

What was the paint number?

67766EU. This took a fair amount of discussion between Finishmasters and the guys at Hatteras. The number that Hatteras originally gave me was close (don’t have it right at hand), but didn’t work. The match looks very close, I’ll post a final conclusion after I sand and polish and get them back to the boat.

Old Imron number is 667766u

The new Imron Elite number is 883769

I have been wanting to paint my masts, but wasn't sure if it would attenuate the VHF signal.

I was a DuPont distributor for 30 years , the go to # was 508u during the 80’s / 90’s. This was the original #, original Imron 5.0 voc . of course the #’s May change . Anyway glad you got a good match. If you ever need a reall brite white look at 817u and 5040 u. Both are blue toned whites ,very bright ! Regards, Edward

Digital antenna 532-vw if memory serves is a new 10 db better than old repainted antennas.

I believe its between $550 and $600 delivered and available in white or black.

I put these on sportfishing boTs all the time.

Better made than the Shakespeare and easy to install.

67766u is in my 1985 manual and was the newer color from late 70's on. That 508u was an older 70's number.

508u was the basic white that was almost always easy to match.

It was the go to for selling paint jobs as it was like a universal white that you could use the leftover from one job on the next.

Just closing this out, the color match turned out very close. I never polished the masts, as it turns out it’s impossible (for me) to produce an even coat on a tight curved surface with a brush and Imron. I ended up sanding with 320 and spraying 2 coats of Cat enamel in Matterhorn White; turned out great.
