Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Thinking of getting one to help paint the bilge before the heater goes in....

I've used them, but I didn't get good results with Imron. The solvents seemed to eat the nozzle up and the spray pattern started to get big drops instead of a nice fine spray. I'd rather use my automotive touch-up gun.

For the bilge, it would probably be alright.

Use a brush, the brush marks wont matter in a bilge and your paint thickness will be much thicker, giving you better coverage, not to mention the overspray problem. Your living on your boat rightr, minimize your overspray and fumes by brushing and also minimize the overspray all over everything that you don't mask.
Also be aware that even with brushung you stil get fumes in a boat as the paint dries. I think you have a small child aboard, I would be very wary of fumes for an infant, where I wouldn't worry too much about myself or another adult,

RRR
Is right Roll and tip!!!!!

I would be using this in areas I can't reach guys, not for the whole bilge... I bought a case of chip brushes already, Just need this for the areas I can't reach. BTW, I painted an engine already with one more to go. The Hassle is I need to get the heater back in soon and will not be able to get around it to paint the bilge in that area.

Now that looks cool :D

This forum is better than "Hints from Heloise". I need to get myself over to HF for some of those brushes. Hummmm, Noel I wonder if they started out as regular brushes but due to a manufacturing glitch the handles got bent. I still think that someone on this forum would do well to write a book listing all the neat ideas from our members. I'll buy the first one.

Not enough power Noel the paint would have to thinned so much it wouldn't work very well. If you've really got lots of areas that are tough to reach consider renting a small airless sprayer.

Like Bill did you need to reach other wise why bother!

If you cant clean the area and prep it most likely it won't stick ;)
Its not like we all are painting on new surfaces :D

So I said my side but if you must spray how about a HVLP detail gun out of Harbor freight they actually work real nice and cheap!

Heloise here LOL !! I bought a bunch of those brushes for painting hard to reach trim on an old house job. They are really good units. Makes cutting in and a clean crisp line no problem. Can you tell I like them; A LOT ???
After handling the logistics of the long handle under the engines etc, a good dunking in the paint bucket will render you a FULL brush thats not too sloppy. The angle on the head lets you push and pull the paint in effect really being able to mash it into the substrate. For a lousy 2 bucks you cant go wrong. No runs, no drips, no ERRORS !! ws

A big thanks to Walt P for telling me about the sprayer. And A big thanks to the rest of you as well. I be off to Harbor Freight as well. Dan, I am thinking of a detail sprayer anyways, but I do need a place to store it and I am still looking for that so until I get ma a place to store it....

Noel

I guess that means you cant have one of those PODS as a dock box :D

Dagnabit Musky... Can I have one Please.......
