  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Has anyone every commissioned a painting of their boat? I have wanted to have someone paint a canvas of my boat for some time, so I can look back years from now and have fond memories of where I spent most of my time and money. I am not sure if a watercolor or an oil painting would be more appropriate.

If anyone has any good canvas painters they are familiar with please let me know. Or if anyone has had a canvas of their boat painted and has any advise I would like that feedback as well.

Thanks,

Marcus

Marcus,
I did this a few years ago. I liked the results. It was done by John van Dyck here in Annapolis. If you send me a PM, I will send you an email photo of the painting.

I am going to try to post a photo of the painting of Blue Note. Watch this space for further fruitless attempts, frustrated emails, apologies, and general confessions of incompetence. Well see how it goes.
CAn't do it. The file is too large 470kb and I don't know how to reduce it. I will seek advice and try again.

You could email the photo to one of us on the board and we could reduce it and send it back to you for you to post. Just a thought....

Ang, I will do that. I have your email around someplace. Thanks.

I can reduce the size if you like.

Many years ago a friend took a 35 MM photo of my old Matthews. It was blown up with excellent resolution and color to about 30" x 36" inches. It's currently hung in the salon of my Hatteras. Another possibility is a digital photo with high pixel resolution.

My thanks to all who offered to reduce the digital file of the painting so I could post it. Here goes.....
, let's see if this works.

Maybe this will work....

Some additional notes: the painter who did this, John van Dyke (I spelled it wrong above), is an Annapolis native who has had several shows of his oil paintings in local galleries. He did the painting from a photograph that he took of Blue Note in the harbor downtown (Ego Alley). He also did some editing of distracting elements like cars, etc, which strengthened the image by simplifying it. He would probably be available for other commissions, I imagine. I think the painting took about six weeks from beginning to end, and arrived framed etc. The colors, which were quite vivid to begin with, have muted a little but are still very strong. It is too big to put in the boat, so it hangs in my dining room.

I also had one done about 1.5 years ago local guy on Long Island Nick Wieh.
Picture does not do it justice also have new frame that goes very nice with it.

Jims picture must have been taken from in front of the hardware store--

Dans- maybe from a dingy in Cocles?-

That is funny everyone thinks the same thing Including myself but actually the painter did the background on his own and has never been there :D

The paintings of your boats looked great, especially the one done by the painter from Annapolis. One of my good boating freinds has an old Chris Craft, and as a boat warming gift one of their friends painted their boat on canvas. Not a great painting but a great idea for something to hang in my office.

If you have any contact information for John van Dyke I would appreciate it. You can either post it here or e-mail it to me at mgernes@expressprintinginc.com.

Thanks

Will do, Marcus. Let me dig around and see what I can find. If you are in the area (MD) and want to see either the boat or the painting, I can oblige.
