  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
We have a 1964 41' DC. On the portholes (the oval shaped ones) I have lost a couple of latches and I am trying to figure out how to replace. Sams does not carry these latches. Images of the latches on the link below.

Looking for ideas

Try Fuller brush company....they made 1970's ports and a few years ago I got screens for my ports....

Yours are the oval bronze portlights of the earlier Hatteras Yachts. The Fuller lights are the rectangular injection-molded plastic ones of the later yachts. Fullers are still available. I don't know who made the bronze ones, and I have tried a little bit. Do you need the wingnut or the wingnut and shaft assembly? I have found stainless wingnuts which fit the shaft, but these are not as large as the OEM. I could use a couple of the originals as well.

Be careful of forcing these nuts if they are stuck. Because they are bronze it is easy to twist the ears off. I recommend penetrating oil and low-grade heat such as a soldering iron. Torches burn the paint off.

These are great portlights because they never wear out and are infinitely rebuildable. Next time I replace my screening I will try glueing fiberglass screen onto the screen frame instead of soldering copper screen onto the frame. The copper seems to get brittle after about 15 years.

Let us know if you find anything.

I don't know where you are going to find them. I broke the ears off quite a few of mine thinking I would replace them easily. Had to weld them back together. Never could find anything that would work.

http://www.shivombrass.com/brass_eye_bolts.htm This is a link to the brass eyebolts that will work. Maybe a small amount of modification with a dremel.

http://www.boltdepot.com/product.aspx?cc=7&cs=58&cm=4 This is a link to some brass wingnuts. You can buy singles or box of 100 and give some to your friends.

The bolts are installed with roll pins. You can punch them out or carefully drill them out and replace with a stainless steel roll pin, have not been able to find a brass roll pin as of yet, but a small brass bolt and nut would do the trick if you want it to stay all brass.

Hope this helps

Wing nuts I have - the shaft assemble is what I need
