Last weekend, I took the boat out and could only get the port throttle up to about 1,300 RPMs. I think there must be air in the line or something because the RPMs would just drift down back toward idle. If I "pumped" the throttle, I would get more RPMs out of it, but I didn't want to create any problems for the starboard engine or have the boat make any drastic changes in direction as the port engine wound up.

I pressurize the system to between 70-80 psi. Prior to charging, I went up on the tuna tower to check the bleed screw to see if the line was low on antifreeze/distilled water. Fluid dripped right out when loosened. I pumped the aft flybridge first, flybridge second and tuna tower third to try to get air out of the system. Tightened the bleed screw and then pumped up the pressure with the air compressor. Same results.

What am I doing wrong?

Check online for your brand hydraulic system trouble shooting...but I never heard of one with antifreeze/water nor one charged to 80 psi....posting your manufacturer name here will get you better assistance....any mtc done on the system since last use?? Did you check the resevoir (reserve supply) level ??

I'll have to check on the mfg when I get down to the boat later. There has been no work done on the system. The sight glass on the resevoir has liquid at a level within the correct area.

Your system is almost certainly Hynautic and yes the fluid is antifreeze and water and pressure is around 70 PSI. Go thru the whole bleeding procedure if you get the same result from all throttle levers on that side then your problem is in the slave cylinder or lock vavle. If only one throttle has a problem then that's it. Very little goes wrong with those systems that's anything more than dirt or a simple seal.

Brian,
I don't want to seem ignorant, but was my bleed procedure correct? Where is the slave cylinder and lock valve? You by chance wouldn't have a complete run down on the system that you could post? Any help would be appreciated.

As an addition, all three levers move the same distance. I have a split system, so each side has a throttle and shift. There is no problem with the shift.

I'm pretty sure that it's posted with Sams somewhere or you should be able to find it online. If not PM me I can probably have it somewhere.
