38' FLYBRIDGE DBLE CABIN (1972 - 1978)
We are finally getting to take a cruise around to daytona.

We will be leaving from Palatka area next month, any recommendations on where to stop in or around Jax, we thought we'd stay the night and find a nice resturant on the river. Then head to St Auggie the next day, we will stay at the Conch House when there. Then headed on to Disappearing Island for a day or two. Will head back same trip the next week.

Since her replacement engines we have only done a sanford trip. We ran her at 8 knots/1000rpm from Palatka to Sanford and Back we only used 70 gallons of fuel. So we decided to travel a little further and see how she does, we are happy with her fuel consumption so far.

Of course, it's lots of fun to go up the St. John river all the way to the Outback Crab Shack at "6 Mile Creek", which is only about 20 miles up from Jax. Stay overnight on their dock. Further up, be sure to run through Murphy Creek which is a twisty, curvy, deep water, creek with overhanging tropical foliage, alligators, etc. almost like a Disney jungle cruise. There are some nice anchorages there too.

Fernandina Beach, just north of Jax is a quaint little touristy town with a dock right at the end of Main Street, so you can walk to the town easily. The wisteria is probably in bloom about now. Be careful if you take the ICW between Jax and Fernandina Beach, it gets really shallow, like 2 ft. in spots right in the channel.

Don't get run over by any submarines around Amelia Island.

The Riverwalk has slips to use. You'll have The Landing which seems to have some nightlife. I think you can pull right up front if nothing is going on. St. Johns, Fernindina, Mantanzas and St Augustine were all neat places. Daytona is trashy.

The first weekend in May will be the Shrimp Festival in Fernindina. It might be worth a trip.

I think we are going this year, by land yacht :D

Dockage at The Landing is free...no electric or water but lots of places to eat, rangind from Hooters up to Ruth Chris.... Plus Live music every Friday night and Saturday afternoon thru the evening.

April 5th is the "Blessing of the Fleet" there....
We will be there from Friday till Sunday evening....
Should be docked there Friday night thru Saturday morning, then going off to meet up with the local power squadron for an overnight raft up (behind Exchange Island) Saturday. then docking at Metro Park Sunday afternoon so as to walk to the Colosium to attend a concert before returning to our dock...

where did you find 2' in the channel? i dont' recall that section being bad unless maybe you are a little too far to the side. Staying in the center is important there, especially around the bends.

Fernandina Beach is a nice stop indeed. St Aug. is good too, but i dont see the attraction with Daytona.

If I remember correctly, Ruth Chris has concrete slips out front but, all the action is on the otherside of the river. Now that I think about it, getting rid of the Hatt has been good for my hangover ratio.....

Very very few boats dock on the "Southwalk" as it gets very shallow there plus unlike The Landing area which is No Wake between the Acosta and Main St bridges, you are where the boats can power up and the wakes will rock you.
And there is the water taxi you can take or it's an easy 10 min walk going over the bridge..

Thanks for the help.

We have been to St Auggie, Daytona and Jax before just never did the trip around in our Hatt. We take our trailer boat over to the Intercoastal. I dont care much for Daytona but we wanted to go to the Disappearing Island for Easter Sunday, thats about as far as we will go.

I do love outback crabshack we take trips there in our bowrider for lunch:)
