  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1987 - 1991)
The chrome on my engine controls are pitted and I was wondering if there is a product out there to make them look better. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you have Morse controls I assume you're talking about the levers. Ongaro makes stainless steel arms and knobs to replace the original pot metal ones.

And if it is the housing you can buy new shiny ones. I did this a few years ago. The metal is much better. Wish I remembered where I got them.

I think I have a Morse control with a pair of handles. I can check Monday when I get home.

Scrod, it's the bases not sure if they are Morse or not but they original and the boat is a 1988. I thought maybe Fritz metal polish might work just wondered what others thought.

We bought our 87 40 double cabin this past summer. She spent her whole life in salt on Long Island Sound. The Morse controls and bases were probably never polished and had some pitting. With a lot of patience and elbow grease they look as new now. All thanks to Flitz. A great product!

Ah,... I see. Ignore everything I said. :p

There is a product called "AUTOSOL". It's great for polishing neglected chrome. You can buy it at Amazon or Walmart

Wait! You mean they didn't come that way originally? Mine look identical to my '65 Chris. I always thought that was the way they were manufactured.

And if all else fails re chrome.

You can't re chrome pot metal. They sell replacements and SS handles.

Don't tell a car restorer that you cant rechrome pot metal he would die .Call Magicmetal @661-832-1177 they can do the job or about a thousand other rechromers.

Dug these out of the garage. $50.00 plus shipping.

If 38 Hat doesn't respond, they are yours if still interested. They are boxed up and ready to go.
