  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
I looked in the gallery and am either a doofus (not unlikley, especially if one asks my kids) or there are none posted...(seems unlikely, 'specially with this group). A little help?

You got to look under Capt Eric there in alphabetical order ;)

I think this last one with the grey hull is a 28 that was the prototype for military use.

Is this Knit Wits hull #1?

Amazing that after 45 years, the lines still speak of timeless beauty.

KW is hull 001. Hull 003 was up here in Maryland a few years ago, it may still be. Or maybe it was 004- it was one of the first group of boats built, I am certain of that. I don't know whether 002 is still with us. I remember having a conversation with Walt Frazier before he retired in which he mentioned that of all the Hatteras Yachts built, better than 95% of them were still running around on the water, in use. That's an extraordinary record, and I see no reason to doubt it. I would suspect that of all the Rolls-Royces built, no more than half are still driveable, if that. So is a Hatteras better than a Rolls? If you ask me, it is.

I read in the Hat story that when NW was first rebuilt , it burned so they had to find #2 to copy the Saloon house. I guess #2 is still around somwhere.

Wow. Ya'll are amazing when it comes to this "boat stuff."
I figure I ought NOT to ask for photos of the Cat in a Hat on a Hatt. Who knows what'd show up....

Thanks for the response(s). KW really does have nice lines, doesn't she?

Here is hull #3, reportedly FOR SALE as a project boat located in New Jersey.

Wow, I don't have the time, but if anyone did, can you imagine a sweeter project? You pay your $14k or $15k and count on the total deal -- new power, running gear, electrical, interior bulkheads, plumbing, etc. But you'd never be weighing the cost of fix or buy new on so many things, including engines. Makes it pretty straightforward.

Problem is you still probably couldn't make it justify in the end. Even DIY on everything, the costs would be too high. You'd just have to totally love that boat. Sure does have pretty lines, though.

An investment yes, but in a piece of Yachting history. A worthwhile project, I would say. At least you wouldn't have to endure a guy walking down the dock, pointing to your boat and saying "My brother-in-law has that IDENTICAL boat!"

What # was the SS Minnow? Every time I see that boat I wonder what Hatt Corp. thought about G. Island using that boat.

That wasn't a Hatt. It was a woodie. I don't recall the brand but do remember it being on eBay a while back. The original SS Minnow would make an interesting restoration project. Speaking of famous boats, anyone know whatever became of "ORCA" from the orignal JAWS movie?

Someone once told me it was a 48' Wheeler. Don't know for sure.

I know ya'll just love idiotic things about boats, so here's the scoop on the "SS" Minnow(s) !

It is indeed a Wheeler, not a Hatt.

Hull #2 (minus part of the superstructure) sits near Tom Slanes shop in High Point, NC. Call Tom is you're interested, he can probably get it for you.....
