I realize I won't attract a lot of participants here, but I figured I'd throw it out there for those that like such things, and to get the Holiday Spirit rolling in the forum.
After being forced to cancel our event for two years due to low water, the recent floods have filled Lake Lanier, so an annual tradition, our parade of lights, is returning. We're behind the 8 ball as we thought it was sure to be cancelled again before the October rains hit, but we're scrambling and it looks like we'll have a pretty good event.
This is an event I co-chair, and have coordinated and led from the operations aspect for many years. Started out as a Yact Club event, and in 2005, we opened it up to the whole lake community as a charity fund raising event. The last event attracted about 35 participant boats, many spectator boats, and a good number of shore-side viewers. We have no idea what this year will bring since notice went out late, but a local club that used to do their own thing has estimated up to 25 boats from their organization alone.
We're young, so it's not as big of a deal as the Lauderdale event, but we get our share of 100' + houseboats with light plants that will run a small city and the sailboaters got very creative with what was lofted into their rigging, so there is plenty to see.
If anyone is interested in following along, there is a Facebook group called the Lanier Parade of Lights, and a website that is under construction, but getting better every day at http://www.lanierparadeoflights.org
I generally have my hands full during the event, but may try to get a web cam running pointing aft. Otherwise, we'll have the stills posted from previous events, and of course this year's after the fact.
The event is November 28th, so if you're in the Atlanta area, give it a look, or just follow along on the web!
