  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' CONVERTIBLE (1969 - 1980)
Hi all,
I am lucky enough to have a Palm Beach Pod with Panish Controls on my 53 conv.
However, the boat has hardly been used for years and I am having an issue with "finding" neutral on the controls. The indent for neutral is so slight that quite a few times I have found I am in gear, especially on the Port engine, when I thought I was in neutral. Not the best thing to happen when I am going down the flybridge ladder to help my sons land a big one!
Also the Synchroniser has a problem & when going into neutral, & later trying to move forward, the port eng stays in neutral. I can fix this by a bit of fiddling with the breaker for the synchro but obviously it needs attention.
Other than this I like the Panish feel & luckily the 53 is so EASY to maneuver that it is not too much hassle in close quarters, but I want it right. I notice Jim Rosenthal has some experience with them. Best way to make adjustments? The system is easy to access in the ER above the port engine.
Thanks in advance.

Call Rob Panish, go over this with him. But I think the detent, which is a spring-loaded ball, is probably down on the transmission itself, not so much on the control unit. I can't recall if the control has a detent. Pull the cover off it and look inside, also look underneath the console and see. Different Panish controls have different setups. Where is your boat? If you are local, I can take a look. I am in MD.
