  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' TWIN CABIN (1965 - 1971)
A friend of mine is repowering and has a pair of RTO Cummins 370's with trans for sale. These are 1969/1970 vintage out of a Trumpy motor yacht, 5000 well maintained hours. One trans is sick, the other is fine. I think they're Capitals.

Please note that these are not "903's" These are 785 cu inch 370 HP V-8's.

I think he also has a good running 15kw Onan, but I don't know the details on that.

Location is Great Bridge, Va. I don't know prices. Send me a PM and I will put you directly in touch with the seller.

If they are too big I know where some 8V53's are. Thats a big engine for under 400 HP.

Hatteras put some VT8-370M's in some 53MY's. I looked at a 1972 that had those engines.

Indeed...and some 43 DC's among others. That's why I posted these here. Parts are scarce and pricey. If I had a boat with these engines, I would invest in some spares.

I have them in my 45C

Where these the 370's that were used in the series 1 45's and the 44 strikers back in the early 70's?

Yes. Those are the ones.

The USCG used a lot of them as well on their 41' patrol boats. Amazing that they always had a bunch of brand new spares in crates for when one of the boats needed a new engine or two. They didn't usually major them. I understand that they were pretty good engines and they were probably very robust since I would watch the young coasties jump aboard, fire them up and haul out full throttle. The fact that those engines always came back for more speaks well for them. I have heard that parts are hard to get and very expensive when you do find them.

I have a pair in my 1970 Hatteras 53. Thankfully they give no trouble. Does anyone know what transmissions were typically on them? I can't find the plate on mine and for all the paper on this boat none of it seems to say anything about the transmissions.

Also eager for any spares.

Post some pictures. We can identify them.

Typically they have Capital gears behind them.
