  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
55' CONV -Series I (1979 - 1988)
Managed to get myself into a tight spot and banged up my 55'C last week. Insurance is willing to pay to repaint the stbd side. I'll have the entire hull painted though. My question is this. What are ball park figures to paint the hull with a yacht quality spray job? I'll have the Huckins yard in Jacksonville do the work.

$1000 per foot

Ron, is that in California or south of the border?

Rusty, that's what the good San Diego yards are quoting, I found that if you can find a good painter that the yard you haul out in will approve to work there and pay him directly and the yard costs directly you can reduce that cost quite a bit. In Calif. a lot of the cost now is in tenting the boat. John

Hi Rusty

John is correct about San Diego costs.
South of the border in Baja I got a quote of $875 per foot. Not really worth the effort and fuel costs/time to save a few buck getting painted in Mexico.

Just the Hull should be no where near that.

Hull side I'd figure 100-400 a foot. Some around here have had recent quotes.

Lordy, I sure hope it's not $1000 a foot. I'm on the east coast in Ga. We don't have the OMG California premiums. LOL

$300-$400 per ft

When you say "per foot", is a 55" boat 110" of painting?

Still.....that's "crazy" money! That's why I practiced roller & tipping on "Jr." this spring. Plan to do the big guy this fall/winter.

What is Jr, and does it fit on your bow?

Also I sprayed my 41 years ago, and that was a pain. Had it so long, I rolled and tipped it a second time. Much easier. Hardest part was prepping and sanding. The painting was a breeze. I even rolled and tipped the engine room. Always looked wet and shiny.

Have a great week,
Tim

Jr. is a 14.5 Scout. Yes I can get it up on the front deck. You are soooo right! The prep was 90% of the job!.

Two years ago Huckins estimated 13k for rub rail down. 61CMY

No, it's hull length feet, but a THOUSAND a foot of hull length seems awfully high.

$200 to $300 a foot for the hull only, both sides and transom, in the southeast above Florida.

Pete

Still a lot, but much more reasonable. A thousand a foot would be 55K? Crazy.

It is crazy. All of the liberal enviromental whack jobs have made doing business in California beyond crazy expensive.
The wonderful legislature here just passed another carbon tax that is going to increase the per gallon tax on gas and diesel by close to .70 per gallon. It makes me want to almost move to Florida....almost.

That $1000.00 a foot is for the entire boat and includes prep work, filling, fairing and sanding, one coat of primer and 2 coats finish paint. I totally agree with Ron. John
