  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' LRC (1976 - 1981)
Ross Marine hauled my 1976 48 Long Range Cruiser today. They found an oyster farm. I figured I'd post the good, the bad and the ugly. Do you think I need a bottom job, lol?Bottom 5.webpBottom 2.webpBottom 3.webpBottom 5.webpBottom 2.webpBottom 3.webp

Some of the pictures posted twice. Not sure why but I'll check it better next time.

Your hull is growing whiskers.

You need a diver ...

I have found the Charleston area waters to be very prone to heavy fouling. Also Brunswick, GA is bad as well. Don’t know if the low country has a bunch of nutrients for the barnacles and such.

Naw, you can go a little longer next time!

The propellers and shafts on a boat I dove (cleaned) a couple of years ago were carpeted with 3-4 inch oysters. The owner told me before I went under the boat that he had it cleaned 'a few months' prior, which I think really meant he couldn't remember the last time it had been cleaned!

Thanks guys- Its bad enough to hear those oysters snap crackle and pop when your trying to sleep in Charleston harbor, now we see the nightmare to go along with it!

During the 80s, I purchased a boat at the old Isle of Hope Marina. Got it running and was just able to idle it to (then) Tide Water Marine for hauling.
Oysters, carpet, fans, brush and 4 foot long sea grapes covered it's bottom. Oyster shells were doing the work since not much of the prop blades were left.
I had to help the yard guys shovel it off, into a wheel barrow and to the dumpster. The yard kids did earn their heavy tip that day.
The previous owner stated it was about 18 months of no use when I purchased her.

Naw, mkh8911s hull looks pretty good.
