- 48' YACHT FISHERMAN (1972 - 1975)
Hi All,
We moved to a new marina this year so I thought I'd post a few images. It's called Popes Island Marina and it's located in Fairhaven Mass.
Some special features:
- It's part of New Bedford harbor which is home to a large fishing fleet which is always interesting to watch.
- As part of New Bedford harbor there are several marinas with boats and yachts of all makes, types and sizes, also interesting to watch.
- Fairhaven Shipyard is across the harbor. It's one of the finest large yards in the country servicing the fishing fleet, the ferry fleet (to MV and ACK), large motor yachts (up to 200'), and wooden vessels such as the Bounty and Mayflower etc.
- We are located behind the hurricane barrier which closes it's massive door for protection whenever serious storms threaten.
- The marina itself is extremely well cared for and managed and provides lots of services. Great group of people managing it.
- Close to great restaurants and shopping.
- Easy quick trip to the Elizabethan Islands (Cuttyhunk), Marthas Vineyard, Nantucket, Newport RI, Block Island and most any Cape Cod town such as Hyannis, Falmouth, Mattapoisett, etc.
We took a spot on the large "T" head which I was a little leary about at first, but we love being out there where we can see everything and there aren't as many people wandering. On the down side it's about 4 miles from the front gate to the boat (only kidding but it's a looooooog way) carrying stuff back and forth is a pain, and you're constantly adjusting fenders, lines and fender boards.
Hope you enjoy the images.
