Original Monel Exhaust Riser - Repaired?

Looks like the original 1976 Monel exhaust riser only lasted 46 years on my 1976 43DC. Next thing you know, the 903's are going to start burning oil. Everybody knows what pieces of crap those 903's are (smirk).

I think I know the answer to this question, but I wanted to ask anyway: Is it neither advisable nor practicable to fix the original Monel exhaust riser per the below picture, correct? I had these risers off back in 2015 when I replaced exhaust hoses and brought them to Marine Manifold in Farmingdale, who said they were in good shape at the time and in future, when time came to replace. they could not make replacements out of Monel as they did not have material or rods to weld it. It looks like I'll probably be going back this winter to have duplicates made in stainless steel. Anyway, any input welcome. As aside, I think I'll replace the small fuel coolers also showing corrosion below, I replaced those 14 years ago.

Scott I had new ones made. I had new mixers welded on the ends from Tony Athens. Now there is zero chance of the engines ingesting water, its all downstream. I wrapped everything with header wrap but I think the hard wrap is the way to go. Very lucky to find it early. My leak was internal, dam things only seem to last 45 years or so!

Re: Original Monel Exhaust Riser - Repaired?

Thank you for feedback Walt. When I brought them in to be checked at Marine Manifold in 2015 they told me they would also place the shower head last if rebuilt and insulate with wrap the stainless steel section from turbo up to it.

Yesterday saw a strange thing happen. I took her out to warmup oil for end of season oil change. I had all the floorboards up so I can inspect and get at everything easy for winterization. When I first started the engine there was a small, barely noticeable drip from the riser. I ran her on the pins for about 15 minutes and by time I was tied up and idling back in the slip the leak was completely gone. I guess the hole plugged up with some internal crud. Anyway, I will replace both headers this winter while on dry dock - The northeast boating season is for repairs and I already have my list.

Yah they don’t make things that last anymore. Lol
