  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
FYI Yesterday the USCG closed Organ Inlet to all craft with five (5) feet of draft or more. If th
is north wind keeps blowing as it has for the last week it will fill in more and th
e draft will get less.

Nobody's happy when an organ inlet gets closed, that's for sure!

When you coming back down this way Tim?

"organ" inlet ?? Do you mean Oregon Inlet in NC ?

So you guys are spelling it the same way the rednecks in Eastern NC pronounce it ! ;-) (I should be able to get away with that insult as I am almost one of them...grew up in Sanford, NC and have eaten many a BBQ plate in Kinston and little Washington :p )

Organ inlets and boner bridges! Sounds like a nautical porn flick. Tim can you still pass or has it shoaled up that rapidly over the last few weeks?

Well - I guess that answers my question about going through OI on my way South.

There is a dredge there now and scheduled to be there through at least October 5. But with the weather filling it in so quickly, it might be awhile before the dredge, which is a hopper dredge, can be effective.

What do all the nearby charter boats do now, what are their options? That's got to be a big problem on their bottom line.

Tony

I have not been out in about 9 days been nasty here. I do not think it is the actual inlet. When i was going out it almost daily. There was good water north of the bridge south of the bridge a lot of water just spread out. In other words shallow. Actually in the inlet i marked some 29 to 30 foot stuff in spots. A north to north east wind gives that inlet a fit.... I drove over the bridge white water from the sea marker to the bridge about a good mile and about 3/4 mile wide. The deep water kinda runs at a angle in the inlet not straight in. The tide runs hard bringing sea sand in and runs harder bringing muck from the sound going out with about a 1 foot tide drop or less.

There is three options
go to Virginia beach and stay and hope to get trips.
they can also go to hatteras there is a few slips there 20 or so.
Remember it is closed to 5 foot draft and grater now. Who knows what will go down by the time this wind stops. Just about all the charter boats are local guys who know how to read water they will pick it out.
The worst part every one has been sitting on the sideline waiting for the big bite. It is expected to happend when this blow is over. So there is going to be some chancers you know the chest beaters.

Kings is the the best QUE in eastern Carolina in my humble opinion. Even the small location is a must when I am passing thru Kinston!

Better than that place in Currituck? You SURE?

Be sure to stop in Goldsborro at Wilbors BQ it is on hwy 70 the east side. If you have time get the all you can eat deal. If you traveling get the B Q sandwitch the large one be sure you are hungry do not forget the sweet tea. My wife complains the sweet tea is like syrup. Unsweet avable for her.http://wilbersbarbecue.com/

Going through Wilson NC eat at Parkers BQ same order applies all you can eat deal. It is on hwy 301.

There is another one in Wilson Bill Ellis BQ it is a Buffet style in my openion the quality is better at Parkers but the selection is all country at Bill Ellis pure country collards to banana pudding all grate. There is always a pig cooking in the background. Some of the items are fried chicken B Q chicken and local vegetables when in season. You will not leave hungry!!!!! They are about three to four miles apart. http://www.bills-bbq.com/index.html

I like the place in Currituck. It is on the way to my house in the OBX, and I stop there whenever I can. Nice folks- but what else would you expect down there? NC is honest to God the friendliest place I've ever visited.

I was born and raised in NC but in my experiences the natives of Minnesota are more friendly. But heck, even folks in Brooklyn, NY can be friendly if you are there...seems like it the ones that move south that are not so friendly.

I grew up and lived in my small town. Knew every one and their brothers or sister mom and dad and all their ken people. Nothing ticks me off about the the people moving in they are welcome. But them rascales that blow at the stop lite for no reason or as soon as the lite turns green just gets my blood boiling. (Is it a northern thing?) It just aint southern! Sometime i will go slow as not to make the green or not squeeze the yellow if they blow behind me. Bumper sticker floating around yank no blow at the lite you in the the south
