  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
The impeller in my 6.5 Onan genny crapped out over the weekend unexpectedly...so went to the local auto parts store that usually has everything and then some for the boat and he didn't have the impeller.
He didnt list one and said I had to go directly to Onan. Called the Onan stealer and they had one. $68.03 later.....I have a new impeller and gasket! I just don't know how Onan makes any money charging ONLY $68 for an impeller the size of a quarter! What a rip-off!!!
I bought 2 impellers for engines that are 5 times the size and they didnt cost $68 together!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I hate it when I get screwed and there's nothing I can do about it!!!!

Not a $68 screw up- but those Onan Cummins guys had to order in my genny impeller. Took 4 weeks and $13. Get to the boat and it's not even half the size of the old one. Went to Napa and picked up the right part, in stock, and even got a good installation tip for $8. The guys at Onan must not be allowed to think. Tip: on reinstall, goober up the new impeller with Dawn dish detergent to keep it moving while water is reflooding.

I rebuilt mine with parts from Depco. Impellor, Shaft, Bearings, end cap and wear plate. It was expensive but the damn thing pumped better than it ever did. The wear marks inside the end cap caused loss of suction.

think thats bad wait till you have to replace the shaft and bearing. NAPA sells onan impellers? anyone have a part #?
