My 1987 Onan 20kw generator just recently started to leak a little oil. It seems like it is coming out between the engine and the electrical side of the generator, from the wire guard on the bottom. It's not much but it's enough that after running the generator overnight I have to wipe it up with a paper towel. The strange thing is there seems to be oil also coming out of the "front" side of the motor too, someplace around the pulleys. Someone mentioned to me that the "breather" might be clogged causing excessive pressure in the engine. I'm not a mechanic so I don't know what a breather is or if this could be the culprit. I see from the parts diagram there is a silencer but I don't see a breather. The oil pressure does seem to be a bit higher than normal, now running around 55 psi rather than the 50 I think it used to run at. Any ideas???

Ok, I didn't get any takers on my first post. Let my try to ask about it in another way.
Is there such a thing as a "breather" on the Onan MDL4? If so, can it be cleaned. As I said in my first post, and is obvious from this post, I don't know much about the mechanical workings of engines.
Thanks much,
Pat

Did you just buy this boat? Does it have one engine room?

My MDl4 does not have an air filter or "breather". I have a manual and will take a look when I get to the boat tomorrow to see what is back there that could leak.
