ONAN generator issue

The yard changed the impeller in the genset (9KW diesel ONAN). Of course it was in pieces. They were able to fish all of them out.

They found the bearing for the impeller worn out also. It is an Onan part anyone have an idea how much or why it would wear out so early 435hours since new. Also anyone know a good parts source?

I take it is your raw water pump? I'd call Depco, they probably have the part from the actual Mfr of the pump and i would wager at lower cost than a re-branded Onan. Sounds like it may be misaligned in mounting.

Regarding premature wear - maybe the shaft seal that keeps out the raw water out of bearing is shot? I would replace seal too while you have it apart.

Russ - I've had good success getting parts for my Onan from Cummings Atlantic here in Columbia, SC. Give them your model number and serial number and they can find most anything. 803-799-2410.

My Onan uses a sherwood k75b raw water pump. The sell a rebuild kit for it that fits many sherwood pumps. It uses a 9959 impeller.
