  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
A friend of mine with the 43 Hatteras recently had visitors to their boat. Accidentally one of the visitors broke the housing on their telephone intercom system. Can anybody make a recommendation as to where I can get a replacement for this unit? Or does anyone on the forum have a unit that they like to get rid of? Please respond if you can help thanks.

I'll ll look. Most have been removed long ago.

Thanks Scott.

Interesting.

I think the phone system is one of the cool things about these boats, on top of them being pretty handy especially when short handed and one can't leave the wheel.

So I did some searching for the modern day equivalent..... not finding ANYTHING!.... wow. What.... you just call people on your cell phone?

On edit..... finally found something: http://www.downwindmarine.com/Newmar-Phone-Com-Intercom-Telephone-p-91000152.html

Yep—got one Rusty.

No kidding Dan. Fabulous. Small color by chance? If you have it in Richmond I can pop by and pick it up today. Let me know. Rusty

That Newmar setup is a pretty cool solution. My intercom has failed so I may also go that route. Any idea on our old intercoms if there is a brain box somewhere that allows adjustment?

Hey Rusty, you need to contact Ron’s old girlfriend, if you don’t know what I am talking about ask Ron. John

I didn’t want to reopen old wounds. I’m sure both are long gone. 😂

Man John....I'm trying to forget about that. She was the nutcase who didn't like the way the phone looked in the master stateroom so she ripped it off the wall while I wasn't there and threw it away without me knowing. She was gorgeous but also nuts so she had to go. Still miss my old Hatteras phone....the girl...not so much.

At least you still have a sense of humor. John

While owning my 3rd Hatteras Convertable, I really had no need for the phone in the bridge linked to downstairs. I always gave the "Sportfish Stomp" on the bridge floor which is the salon ceiling. You know, Three heavy stomps with your foot. That always brings someone upstairs to see what I need, or check the baits on the riggers.

However, I am getting older, and it is starting to hurt my feet. I am installing video cameras and new satellite internet on the boat, so I am also going to put in an intercom for the salon, and galley, from the bridge and tuna tower. I may have to consider that Newmar. Thanks for the heads up.

Actually, not to be speaking too out of turn, but Ron's more exact quote was (paraphrased):

"She didn't like the boat, so I had a hard choice."

"I decided there are a lot of pretty girls out there, but only a few beautiful vintage Hatteras yachts."

"I'll keep the boat and get a new girlfriend."

Dont want to hijack the thread but I have similar intercom phones on my boat. They have 3 buttons instead of the round ones OP has. Only thing is the phone in my bridge is missing but there is one in the bow stateroom and master toilet. I want to move one to the bridge and I think there is phone wiring up there. My question is what generates the current for this system to work? I also have landlines on the boat. I took the phones all out except the ones in master stateroom. Unlike the crazy wife mentioned above my wife and I joke about them. I always tell her to call me if she needs anything while we are sleeping.

I am thinking about using a PBX and simple wall phones (less than $10 each). Each room will have its own extension number, and I should be able to setup a group that will ring all of the extensions. I priced out 6 phones and the PBX for $120. I like the sound clarity of wired handsets. Typically, these are used in offices or homes to connect multiple lines to the outside (POTS), and to each other. But I won't be connecting to outside service. Just using them as intercoms.

There is no shortage of styles for the handsets, since they are regular phones. I saw some decent white ones at Walmart that didn't take up a lot of room.

But, I might go with some color. Also, you can add a cordless handset if you want to move around the boat.

A simple modern PBX (never heard that term, learn something every day) seems to be the most cost effective!

Great find Scott. Thank You.

Here it is hooked up on my table ...

It can handle 8 extensions, each extension has its own number, 601, 602, etc, and #88 rings all extensions.

I am going to add this to one of the outside lines to give me a free google voice phone number so that I can call the boat (or call from the boat)...

We have a c phone system that has a hailer and can integrate with sat/landline. I think the owner in the nineties hooked it up when they installed the inmar sat c. Pretty sure the phones are just standard touch tone so they are very inexpensive. Could be a decent option if you could find one used.
