Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I'm a former Hatteras owner. Now own a 1972 41' Double Cabin Chris Craft. Have a question to ask, and can't seem to get any answers on the Chris Forum Board. Would you mind if I asked a question about a Chris Craft on this Page??? Let me know please. Hatteras owners seems to be on top of things on this page.

Thanks.

I have an old Commander and a Hatt. I do not remember seeing you on the CCCC forum. Ask ,If I can help I will. Dave

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the response. This is in regards to the ethanol question earlier this month on this forum, where the ethanol is destroying the resin in fiberglass tanks in older hatteras Yachts, some Bertram Yachts as well. Just wondering if anyone is experiencing the same with older Chris Yachts. Mine is a 1974 41' Commander DC. Thanks for any info.

To the best of my knowledge CC never used fiberglass tanks.

A lot of the older boats had steel or galvanized steel later models had aluminum. The Commander club is the place to go for CC info. I am active there also. Dave

Thanks Dave. I'll try CC Forum again. Take care. Mackenzie

On my dock, there are three Commanders (two-35 footers and a 38'). The gas tanks on the commanders are steel and they are having a problem with the tanks rusting from the inside out. I don't think the rusting problem is from ethanol, probably age. Up until I learned about the ethanol problem, I thought it was great that Hatteras used fiberglass tanks for both fuel and fresh water.

I'm also a member of both the Hatteras and Chris Craft forums, because my 41' DC is powered by the 427 Ford Chris Craft engine. I find a lot of information about the engines on that site. There's also a lot of good general information about boats built in the mid 1960's to early 1970's. I've found that although Hatteras and Chris Craft are entirely different boats, they shared some of the same parts.

My 2 cents....

i too have the 427 fords and would welcome any chatter on them. would you have the chris craft url handy, requested the former 1961 conny owner....

I'm hoping that discussing 'other' boats on this site doesn't offend anyone out there. I look at other sites as just another way to gain knowledge about boats and not about us and them.

I can say Hatteras has a far better site then others out there.

Agreed, IMHO this is the best forum for 20+ year old mid-sized fiberglass powerboats on the net.

We have many forum contributors who own boats other than Hatteras. While questions from anyone are welcome, non-Hatteras questions should be of general interest and applicable to Hatteras as well as others. Topics on drivetrain, electronics or general maintenance are universally applicable no matter what you own and are certainly invited here.

That said, welcome to the board. There's a lot of talent here ready to help. :)

Hey everyone. Sorry, I've been away for a few days and have just read all the responses to my questions. Thanks to everyone who's put there 2 cents worth foward, I really appreciate it and this is the best forum/chat site out there period!!!!! So I understand this, my boat, a 1974 41' Chris Craft DC probably has steel gas tanks?? Is there a website like Sams for Chris craft owners where I could find old owners manual with my HULL # showing exactly what my boat has in it?????? Thanks to all.

Mackenzie

Use the link I posted earlier in this thread to ask questions about your Chris Craft. The members of the club will be able to tell you how to read your hull # (where it was built etc.) and answer 99% of your questions.

I hope this helps.
