The commentary is really bad… better watch this with the sound off!

Haulover can be nasty but the old girl seemed to have squashed those waves pretty well…

I suspect that boat had not been run for a long time—stained hull, badly smoking engine(s) and no name on the transom. Running Haulover/going offshore on a snotty day in a boat that is having major issues seems like a questionable decision.

Thinking about it a bit, I am wondering if it was a survey sea trial.

With healthy mechanicals she would have “crushed” Haulover to borrow a phrase from the creator of this video.

Almost Hatteras weather.

That didn't look fun. Almost looked like lost a motor.
That kind of rocking would stir up any sediment in the tanks real quick.

At the end of the video it looked like both engines were smoking heavily depending on the effort imposed on them. So I don't believe one engine was any worse off than the other. But wow did they puke smoke.
As to the one on the fly? I am thinking he went up there in case he had to bail out because he didn't want to be caught inside if it went over.

Maybe it was a sea trial LOL.

My guess is they had steering issues, maybe they didn't know where their air pump was. Boat was belching horrible black smoke but did seem to make plenty of power when they needed it in reverse to get out of trouble.

That is some impressive boat handling in snotty conditions, must have been steering issues. There didn't seem to be any problems when they needed to have hard reverse, at least on the port engine. Commentary needs to be off, I'd rather hear the waves and engine sounds.

Looks a bit like loss of steering compensated by somewhat hard-handed use of throttles.

Wow.

The issue looks to be black smoke which is unburnt fuel which may mean the turbos are toast. Or blocked air filters.

But great to see the boat perfom in those conditions.

Sea trial for survey? I doubt it, and whoever was running it didn't appear to care that the tender was loose on the boat deck - no cradle, no straps, only the detachable rails holding it in.
