I have noticed that the oil pressure in my Port DD 8v71ti gets pretty low when the engine is warm and at idle. The starboard engine maintains about 20ish PSI at idle, but the starboard engine drops to 5-10 PSI at idle. At any throttle setting above idle, both engines operate at 40 PSI. I run Delvac 40 weight oil and have added oil in both engines up to the full line on the sticks (usually they self decide to run about halfway between low and full lines). Should I be concerned? If so, where should I start the search for the cause? Thanks for any steers in the right direction,

This is not unusual. Mine will sound the low oil pressure alarm when shifting gears at idle. As long as the pressure comes up with the rpms you are OK.

Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate it.

Mine are pretty low at idle after they have been run a while. I have heard lots of people say theirs ring the bell when shifting at idle.

Same engines, same oil, same experience....when warm at idle it bottoms out the pressure gauges on the flybridge, will rarely set off low pressure alarms..comes right back up with rpm’s.
