  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
Yesterday, we splashed the boat for the summer, after changing the oil and filters. I took the craft out for a shakedown run, but the oil pressure on the port engine seemed to be high. At 2300 rpm, the oil pressure was hovering just over 70 psi. Usually it is around 40 psi. Engines are 6v53 with 400 hrs on them since total rebuilds in 2013.

Any thoughts? Problems? Or is this just a sensor "glitch".

Is this reading from helm or ER gauges?

the pressure reading is from the helm gauge.

Step one is: "Verify the reading with a mechanical gauge."

Helm gauges are often off the mark. If you have mechanical oil pressure gauge in ER that reads in normal range, trust it. If that gauge reads high, it could likely be a stuck high pressure bypass o restriction in lube oil which needs to be addressed pronto. If all is normal in ER, then figure the difference at helm gauge and just know it reads high. If you want to get into it, check wiring and connections to helm gauge as the problem is most likely high resistance. Swapping gauges with other engine is a good way to narrow things down.

Enjoy the hunt.
