Oil Leaking Around Turbo

I recently bought a new boat. It has turbos and I'm already missing my 871N's.... Anyway, after a four day trip I noticed an oil leak. It is coming from the hot side of one of the turbos. There is no oil leaking around the oil lines between the hot and cold side of the turbos. It's just on the exhaust side, where the turbo mates with the exhaust riser. Can anyone speculate what has failed? Also, I plan to move the boat soon on a 4 hour trip and 8-10 knot speeds. Is that a big mistake? I plan to have a mechanic look at it asap but would prefer not to delay the move. Thanks.

I am only going to guess that the seals in the turbo are bad . The good thing is that the exhaust risers will be easy to separate from the turbos.
 
Exhaust slobber.
In-complete burning of the fuel.
Any white smoke or eye burning or smelly exhaust?
Un-burned fuel behind your boat?

What this first proves is you have an exhaust leak.
Micro leak but a leak.
That slobber may also become un-safe.

Have your tech go over it well including removing the turbo and inspecting the mating surfaces for cracks and erosion. I would do this before a long & slow trip.

You may also have an over fueling injector or Low compression lung.
Low boost from the turbo.
Some high performance engines just can not burn all the fuel at lower RPMs when the turbo does not provide any extra air.
This why it's recommended to run the load up for a few minutes every several hours to blow that gunk out of the air box and exhaust systems.
 
I saw this and worse from a guy that always cruised at low RPM. Should run these motors no less than 1300/1400. This may not be your issue but something to think about.

Till all the smoke clears. It could take anywhere from a minute to a half hour depending on how long it's been run slow for.
 
So I ran the boat today since I sort of had to in order to get it to the yard for a haulout. I checked the turbo for the oil leak and the exhaust for smoke every 15 minutes. After about an hour nothing was found, no oil, no smoke of any sort. Fearing a possible fire risk I didn't spool them up, just stayed below 1,000 rpms. Of course I'm still planning on having a mechanic check it out.
 
I recommend Anclote diesel out of Tarpon Springs. Been using them on my 46 since 2018. Like we appreciate a good mechanic it to me seems as though Wayne appreciates good customers so win/win.

Thanks for that recommendation. I know Wayne, he was on my 53’ MY with a customer when I sold it in January. I totally agree with you on the recommendation. Unfortunately my new boat is in Stuart, FL for now. I think I found someone to look at it there but I’m always open to more options..
