No doubt the majority of members are DD 71 or 92 series owners. I have two 4-53N engines in my 48 LRC and hope that someone can help me with my midget engines. This may take pictures, but I am going to try it with words.
Picture the port engine with the blower on the outboard side and governor, fuel filter, etc on the inboard (keel) side. Along the top edge of the inboard side of the block, where it meets the head, is a protrusion maybe 1.5 inches square that runs the length of the block. At the rear end of this protrusion I get small oil droplets when the engine is run. After 5 or 6 hours of running there is enough that you could clean it up with a 2 inch square piece of paper towel. So, not much at all, just enough to annoy me. After some process of elimination, I have determined that the oil is coming from the rear inboard corner of the head/block joint. At this location the head has a small (maybe 1/8 inch) channel cut in the head that almost looks like an intended drain. But even when I put a very small piece of paper towel in this channel, I still get oil droplets, plus the towel gets soaked with oil. There is no pressure associated with the weeping, as the tiny piece of towel in the channel stays right where I put it. No evidence of soot or anything other than engine oil. So finally, I cleaned the head/block joint for the first two or three inches starting at the rear, taped it over with a single piece of electrical tape, and presto, no more oil. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to do a proper fix? Thanks
