I am seriously considering installation of a permanent oil changer unit, Groco being my fav brand. Good rep, plus has non-impeller, gears based pump. I would connect to the genny, mains, and trannies.

So if I attach it to my trannies (Twin Discs MG506), where do I attach the lines. Underneath the tranny?

Also, where in the ER to install the pump...this is a '72 43'DCFB with batts at the out hull. The ER center line is clear, except for the control box of the autopilot is abutting the aft ER center bulkhead.

Should I go with the heavy duty Parker Hannifin hoses connected with threaded fittings, or can I attach with hose over bib with clamps?

Other remarks, suggestions?

Thanks,

I have an oil change pump mounted between the gears just aft and inside of the stbd gear and behind the batteries which are set on the centerline between the engines. The lines to the gears run underneath my Capitol gears. I am happy with mine and if it broke I would buy an new one. The pump makes engine and gear oil changes simple.

I do not recall any indication of manufacturer but when I go back to the boat I can take and post a photo or 2 if that may be of benefit to you.

I bought a reversible vane pump for I believe about $100 and made my own manifold from 1/2" copper tubing from Home Cheapo..mounted it on a piece of plywood....along with valves from the Home ..whole thing cost maybe $175 with hose....
No pressure on the hosees, why just use oil proof hose...I connected my genny and main engines NOT my trannies because I only change tranny oil every five years and the others about annually....

Since my Genny sits higher than everything else I looped the drain hose from the genny pan vertically up adjacent to it...so even if the hose develops a leak along the eight foot or so length to the pump nothing can drain from the genny...the engine pans are of course low points so they were no worry...You can always connect other things whenever you change oil on them and drain the oil anyway...Place your pump anywhere between all the accessories to be drained and you'll minimize hose length..
A fixed pump IS convenient....you can drain all your oil in perhaps 15 minutes then leave the hot engine room alone overnight and return when things have cooled down to change filters and refill with fresh oil....
