  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
So, based on my beleif that the oil in our engines is good way beyond 100 hours, my plan is to do oil analysis along with oil FILTER changes every 100 hours or once a year if there's a year I don't rack up 100hrs.

So..anyone got recommendations on oil analysis kits? Which ones/labs are the best? Do I need to get a baseline with fresh oil first? I know my oil is about a year old now but probably has less than 30 hours on it.

While not an expert by any stretch, my surveyor pointed me in the direction of Polaris Labs for my recent LRC purchase. I took fluid samples before buying the boat at the following orafices:

MAINS
- engines
- transmissions
- coolants
GENSETS
- engines
- transmissions
- coolants
NAID Stabilizers
- hydraulic fluid

I mailed them off to Polaris and within 3 days, got emails back on each component. They have a great website that enables you to monitor each component going forward. From my understanding, it's the changes in the results over time that are invaluable in determining the health of each component.....

Look them up.....great people to work with.

Blackstone Labs might be another good place.
