Should I go to the boat show this week/weekend and check things out? I have four free tickets given to me from Atlantic Towers for the hardtop I bought from them, which will be at the show as a display.....Or should I head down to the boat and work on the interior woodwork so that its done for the Spring? I don't know if the NY show is worth it....I have a Hat and therefore don't need to shop for another boat, but it might be beneficial to see whats being done on new boats that might apply to me and my refurbish project.....But then again getting another weekend's worth of work done will put me closer to being ready for this upcoming season...See my dilemma?

Okay, here's how I see it. You've got your hands full, and I need to get to the boat show to find deals on components for my refurb project. Thus, you need to give me your free tickets so my alcoholic friends and I can wander around and make fools of ourselves on your dime.... Go to the show, it's only one day shot and you might find the deal of a lifetime on something you actually need, like a thirty-pack of chamois. So far the weather forecast up here sucks. How much refinishing are you going to do when it's 38 degrees out?

Of course, if you do decide not to go I could actually use those tickets. :D

I have to wrestle that alligator (aka the tranny coolers) this weekend so my boat work is not weather dependant. I have 2 tickets to the NY Boat Show free to any forum member. PM me if interested.

ps; If you pass through Southern CT, swing by to pick them up. It might be quicker than mailing.

passage, I am thinking of going I you dont want the ticketets let me know. I will be taking the train form westbrook or new haven.
thanks capt. dave

I figure if I turn on the heat and open the windows while I'm applying the finish I should be okay because I could then close the windows and crank up the heat when finished....Gets and stays warm enough to finish. Just have to make sure I have ventilation while inside.

On the other hand I could be walking around at the boat show getting free stuff and looking at new boats that cost way more than mine.

Dave,
You're in Westbrook? I work next door in Clinton (Unilever). PM me to set up a time to pick up your tics.

Hmmm, that post doesn't seem as funny this morning. Never try to be clever after you've worked 12 hrs. On the other hand, if I told you some of the things these guys have done at that show...

Still, if I were you, I'd go. For free, you can look at those expensive boats and laugh because you've got a much better one for much less. Chances are your boat has already been around longer than most of those ever will. Plus, you never know when that free t-shirt will come in handy for wiping off sawdust.

Well I went on New years Day It makes me be good on New years eve!!!! It was the normal N.Y show. Its close and easy for me and gives me a reason to go to Virgils for BBQ and BEERS. Jackman if I was in your area I would think about working this weekend and go to the Atlantic City show its a better show.

Well...I talked with the first mate of ORCA...My Dad, and we decided to pass on going to NY for the boat show. I know its kinda late but I have two tickets for anyone who may be able to get them in time. I live in Phila, PA right now. I also have two reserved under my name and don't know if I can give them out....probably not.

I will try to get to the AC or Baltimore show. I don't need anything at the moment but I figured going would give me some ideas for future work. I'm focusing on radar/chartplotter next with nav chips of the canyons....just not today....but soon.

Jackman,

I have some friends coming down for the show and could use the tickets. Let me know if you still have them. jack.sardina@comcast.net

Jack,

They're your's how can I get them to you? They are exhibitor guest admission passes from Atlantic Towers that they gave me for getting my hardtop. As I said...I live in Philadelphia and work in Princeton right off of Rte#1.

Call me at 717-575-5195 after 6am tomorrow morning. I'll take them to work with me in the event you have time to get in touch.

Thanks,

Jack

Jack,

IMHO - if you only choose one - skip the Baltimore show and go to AC. If this year's Balt show is anything like the past few years, it's not worth a special trip. No big boats to really speak of and weak vendor participation (many of them are bitter because it is a 2 week show with poor attendance).

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably still go one evening. I am a boat/car show junkie. I'm only a half hour away and it's a good excuse to go get a nice steak at Shula's. But you can honestly "do" the show in 2-3 hours - that's how small it is.

Well,

The tickets are gone. Hopefully I did the right thing and decided to work instead of attending. I'll be high on finish this weekend instead of spending money and getting free t-shirts. I don't know if I did the right thing because if I goto the AC show I may come back broke from both spending money at the show and gambling!

went to the show last night. just a few observations:
1- REALLY makes you appreciate what you have.
2- the largest boat i saw was a 48 searay, 740k. sure, what a deal.
3- i've always wondered if anybody actually sleep on the beds that come
in these boats? i'm thinking kids beds.
4- i'm not a big guy, 5'10" 180. my brother and i found most of the access
doors and stairs faily narrow, to the point of having to turn to go
through openings. i would hate to have to do that dance in a
rolling sea or emergency. is this a new trend or am i just getting
old and cranky?

I know what you mean about the room in the SeaRays. Our dock neighbor last year had a 45 SR and after seeing my boat, he put his up for sale. I asked if he was going to get a new 50 SR and he said no. He said he wanted to find something like what I have because he needed more room. That's what happens when people are actually exposed to a vintage Hatt.

Jim you wondered about a rollong sea while on a Sea Ray??? I thought they only sat at the dock I never have seen one out when it was good a RUFF!
