  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
I am selling a new-old-stock Ideal windlass with wildcat.

The unit is a model ACW size 3 (which was later renamed V3C), and suitable for boats 38-48’ according to the manufacturer. It is a 12V reversible model and seems to be complete—what is pictured is all I have; no relays or switches for example. The wildcat is a #16 which is specified for 5/16” BBB chain (which can be changed to match whatever you have). Ideal delivers each unit with standard 4” thick deck bolts which this has. The serial number is EF-69 which is also marked on the motor.

The windlass was reportedly purchased in the mid-90s for a big sailboat project, and found stowed under a bunk by my friend who bought the unfinished vessel.

I would rate the condition as “very good” since it has a few minor blemishes probably related to transporting such a heavy item. It did have some black marks on the chrome, but that wiped away with Tarn-X so it was apparently superficial (I do wish the chrome was thicker but don’t know the factory standard).

I only spent an hour or so cleaning off dirt, then tested the motor unloaded in both directions briefly. The clutch friction material has absolutely no wear. The nuts on the motor still had a little oxide paint from the factory and also seem to have never been tightened on cable lugs.

At the Ideal site I was able to find installation and wiring instructions which I will include with the shipment.

Buyer pays freight which could be substantial, however many people on the site seem to have a business connection and get good shipping rates. I am guessing under a $100--I will be glad to crate it up.

A new list price for this model from Ideal is $4,751 but I don't know what this one is worth--make an offer. I will give HOF members a week or so before posting it on Ebay.

PM with questions. There are three posts and a total of nine images.

$250 plus frt. It's been sitting so long it will probably need to be torn down and re assembled after so.e lube and grease.

Thanks Scott--was hoping you would weight in...

It's very pretty.

Dan,
Drop a pm to Ventura 53 (Dennis). I just gave my old Ideal to his son to give to him. He wants to try to rebuild his from rope only to rope and chain. This looks like a much better fit for him. Mine was pretty rough.

drburke - I guess you didn't take my $500 offer seriously. If I'm wrong, send an email or PM with an alternative offer.

Just checking back in, and I *do* take it seriously, along with Bob's possibility.

Sorry for the delay, but the issue is that I am only posting for my friend and convey this offers to him.

Going forward, I will let him log in and evaluate for himself--but thank you for responding. I will speak with him this evening also.

More later,
DAN
