The coolant circulation pump on my NL genny has failed. It's leaking out of the weep hole. I intend to replace it with OEM new pump and rebuild the old one as a spare.
My question is this... Changing the thermostat requires that the pump be pulled, di this is certainly an opportune time to do so. I even have a new one in hand. That said, the old one works perfectly. While I was analyzing the unit to determine the cause of the coolant loss, I spent some time observing the temp gauge and confirmed that.
So, should I replace a perfectly good thermostat just because it's convenient, and risk that the new one happens to be faulty (it is in the spare parts box and may be 20 years old, I don't know), or should I take the old "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach?
