I'm looking through Petersen publishing never seen before photos and I come across a shot of the Gratiot Auto Supply AA/FD Dragster taken in the wee hours of the morning at the 65 NHRA World Championship Finals in Tulsa OK. The name on the body shell is Maynard Rupp and Roy Steffey.

I don’t have any idea what you guys are talking about. But since your playing pronunciation games, how about tackling this one: Afromosia.

I asked this in another thread but nobody helped me out.

Its actually afrormosia (note extra r) aka kokrodua, botanical designation pericopsis elata. Did you know that it is stronger than white oak? No- my book does not have pronunciations.

I thought that name looked familiar. Sure brings back the good old days and very fond memories of Hot Rod Magazine. As I recall, Mr. Rupp was a very successfull racer and spent quite a time at or near the front of the pack. Quite a feather! I think that was also the era of Don Garlitts and Don Prudhomme. I think it's very cool to have one of my heroes from yesteryear here! I'll bet Maynard has some great stories. Very cool to make a living doing something you love to do! Howard in West Michigan
