Ran into my old Diesel tech at one of those Springtime HS graduation get togethers with all the food in tinfoil pans. Food is good at those, if you are not high fa-lootin.
He is now out of the tech business, as he was laid off from his yard (a big Hatt marina) a couple years ago, and has not gone out on his own, due to insurance costs, etc.
We're talking fitting out time, since my boat is in the water, and I told him I pull my impellers annually, both to inspect but esp. so they won't take a "set". Re-installing is not too bad, if you have some "Palmolive" or other dishwashing detergent to coat the impeller. (seen on the HOF site).
Well he says, there is a new type of impeller out there that is sort of grey in color, extremely durable and will not take a "set". "You could leave it in there (the pump cavity) for 10 years and it would not take a set", he says.
I only have color to go on and haven't researched this yet. Any ideas out there on what it is?
